Now Hiring- Engineering Draftsperson

Newton Design is expanding! We are growing our team to support recent contract awards and major upcoming projects, and we are looking to add a CAD Designer/Drafter to our operation.  

Newton Design’s core business is aircraft simulation and training equipment, with a focus on mechanical and electrical designs for full scale aircraft cabins and fuselages. The CAD Drafter can expect to work closely with our electrical and mechanical Design Engineers to produce engineering drawings and product documentation for our simulation equipment.

The position will be responsible for producing engineering drawings from CAD models, creating 3D models from reference information, generating bill of materials, updating as-built drawings, and assisting in the review and preparation of our drawing packages for submittal to our customers. Additional responsibilities include reviewing drawings for compliance to customer or industry specifications and maintaining our Product Data Management (PDM) database.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for completing task assignments within the allotted schedule, and in compliance with both internal and external requirements and specifications. Candidates can expect to work multiple projects simultaneously and are expected to manage their time so that all assignments are completed on schedule.

  • Create 3D models from reference information, such as customer provided documentation, drawings, photographs, or physical parts and equipment.

  • Create installation, assembly, and detail part drawings that are compliant with industry or customer drawing standards.

  • Prepare and update electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, wirelists, and electrical assembly drawings.

  • Review prepared drawings and other documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance to industry or customer standards, and provide recommended changes for Engineering review.

  • Update and manage product metadata in our PDM database.

  • Create process diagrams, block diagrams, drawing trees, and other diagram illustrations for use in manuals, presentations, and proposals.

  • Other tasks and assignments as necessary to support the successful execution of the project.

Requirements:

  • High School education or equivalent.

  • Entry level applicants will be considered; 2-5 years of related experience preferred.

  • Proficiency in common personal computer productivity software, including Microsoft Office suite of tools, is required.

  • Must be able to read engineering prints and perform critical analysis of the design.

  • Familiarity with ASME Y14.100 drawing practices preferred.

  • Experience in Solidworks CAD software packages required, AutoCAD experience preferred.

  • Experience with configuration management tools, such as Solidworks PDM preferred.

  • Occasionally required to work overtime, holidays, weekends, or night shifts.

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Physical demands typical of this job include:

  • Sufficient mobility and dexterity to operate hand and power tools to assemble trainer components and install into the final structure.

  • Must be able to regularly lift 25lbs, stand for 10 hours, and move about the facility.
